Cut backs! The latest casualty is Marva Pryce of Leeds Voice. Marva, who was at Pool Feast promoting the Rural Infrastructure Support System [RISS], will not have her contract renewed in September. She will be missed, but hopefully we may be able to use some of her time to help Pool implement the opportunities offered by RISS.
Sorry, the BBC/IPlayer Crimewatch sequence that we reported in our last issue was only available for 24 hours.

Saving the planet For Pool Village Hall Management Committee controlling costs is essential; conserving energy and reducing the Village Hall’s carbon footprint has proved a worthy challenge. This year the Management Committee will complete double-glazing to the hall and ancillary rooms including the Social Club. Loft insulation has been topped up and soon an insulated ceiling will be installed above the stage. Subject to grants and fund raising, cavity wall insulation will be considered later this year. A great start to the long term refurbishment and development of the Village Hall, thanks to the technical advice provided by SURE and THIAS, local contractors, villager’s donations and financial and moral support from Adel and Wharfedale Ward Councillors.
Thanks to Richard Platt of Yorkshire Trees for trimming the Hall and School car park trees at mates rates.

Good News A recent turnabout in the governance and accountability of Pool Parish Council has seen some significant changes. Two new councillors have been co-opted and a website purchased. Meanwhile, meeting papers, agenda and minutes are available on request from the Parish Clerk. Look out for Honorary Citizen’s nomination papers and an invitation to a public meeting, late September, for the presentation and vote on your proposals for the £10,000 recovered VAT and interest included in Section 106 Phase 4.
Pool W.I. On 13 April we enjoyed a social afternoon. Jenny Hawkins arranged a Sweetie quiz which got us all thinking. There was also a display of members craft skills, which was very impressive. There is a stitch & sew session on Monday mornings at Sue Browns house and it is obvious that a lot of work gets done along with the chatter! We then enjoy delicious cake and tea provided by members. At our June meeting we had representatives from Hotter Shoes at York to explain to us the Hotter Comfort Concept. We had a very interesting afternoon and were told that it is so important to have happy feet. Especially if you joined in with a few of us who in June took ourselves off for a hike. around Eccup Reservoir - wonderful weather and magnificent views. In April we went around the Chevin and in May, the Washburn Valley. The Garden Party at Wharfedale Court is on the 13 July at 2pm. The competition for the Elizabeth Joce Trophy is a posy in a wine glass. Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 2pm in the Lounge of Wharfedale Court, Main Street, Pool. For information please ring Janet on 0113 2037557 or myself on 0113 2842976. JD
